First of all, I'm never going to watch the movie now.

Second, a list of reasons why this movie didn't catch as much flak as Harry Potter did.
1. Setting: 'His Dark Materials' is clearly set in a fantasy universe. 'Potter' is 'what might actually be happening behind the scenes', this is 'not a chance but wouldn't it be cool'.
2. Despite setting, these books clearly aren't oriented for kids. 'Potter' started out being kid-focused, then gradually grew up. 'His Dark Materials' plunges you into adult-issues immediately. They're definitely the books your read after the 'Potter' series, not before. In other words 'Potter' is like marijuana, the gateway, 'His Dark Materials' is cocaine, the hard stuff.
3. At least 'His Dark Materials' actually mentioned religion. 'Potter', with its ghosts, is completely secular.
4. The movie bombed! No point in giving out free publicity!

Third, anyone want to take this quiz?

Finally, I really need a drink. But I'll settle for a cocktail icon instead.

Does sitting by a nice cozy fire, with a cup of hot tea/chocolate, and a book you can read for hours even when your eyes grow red and dry and you look sort of scary sitting there with your insomniac appearance? Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it's eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today's society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

If you get more than 30, you're paranoid.
If you get 21 to 30, your normal.
If you get 11 to 20, you're pretty normal.
If you get 10 or less, you're fearless.
If you get 0, you're a fag that thinks you're tough.

Instructions:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

Off to their starboard and ahead was the planet's largest moon, black in the eclipse shadow of the planet. The moon's gravity well, whose influence extended into hyperspace, had as they'd intended it to, plucked them back into realspace. While this close to the moon, they would not be able to reenter hyperspace, and as they got closer to the planet's surface, the situation got even trickier; Lavisar had a number of moons, all of them large enough to hinder hyperspace jumps.

"Great placement, Twelve." Wedge's voice again. "All right. We should have a five-to-ten minute window before they can bring online any secondary sensor arrays worth worrying about."

Back from the wedding

Flying wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, it was actually quite nice. Baby brother got airsick though, so I don't think he'll be doing that again.

We really need to rent a car though. Trying to coordinate terminals, flights and times was hell.

The wedding was nice and went off well, especially considering they only had three months to plan (that's a shotgun wedding in my family). No major mistakes, no rain, started on time. The only problem was one of the bridesmaid's forgot her make-up. Honestly, it was the smoothest wedding I've ever attended (and I go to one just about every other year). Kind of makes me nervous though.

I have to admit, I didn't like the bride. She's a neurosurgery resident, but otherwise she's really rather shallow. And I don't think they actually like each other that much; after the wedding he went off to take a nap (he almost missed the reception) and she and her maid-of-honor hit the casino. More than a few of us are wondering if they just married so she could get her Green Card. I just hope they wait at least six months before getting divorced, it would break my uncle's heart to know that he had gone to all that trouble of setting them up for nothing.

So yeah. Not exciting at all.

The first 10 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble (real drabble: 100 words exactly) from you. In return, they have to post this in their journal and write a drabble for you. Post all fandoms you're willing to write for.

Your friends can pick a relationship, a story arc, a missing scene, or pretty much anything they want, unless the author has previously mentioned that they will not write it. They comment with what they want, and you write drabbles and post it in your LiveJournal.

I tried listing how many fandoms I was willing to write in once. Rather than go through that stress again, go here and pick what you want. Anything there is up for grabs.

1. My username is ____ because ____.
2. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
3. My subtitle is ____ because ____.
4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.

1. My username is thetis_argent because it's easy for me to remember. Check out some of the other things I do and you'll see why.
2. My journal is titled "To See the World in a Grain of Sand" because it's the first line of my favorite poem.
3. My subtitle is "And Eternity in an Hour" because that's the last line of the same poem.
4. My friends page is called "And Heaven in a Wildflower" partially because of that poem and partially because despite the fact I am well aware I have a fairly good life, I'm not to fond of reality and lj is my favorite escape.
5. My default userpic is what it is because that's the way I felt after spending too many hours looking for icons.

If you make up titles for stories I didn't write, I will respond with details of those non-written stories. Just think of the possibilities! (If you'd like to include details you'd like, pairings or fandom or something, you can do that too.)
